GEORGE LEONARD PETERSON

George was born in Teulon in 1927 and spent most of his life on the family farm. George took great pride in raising cattle and farming the family homestead. Even in his later years, George kept busy on the farm with smaller chores, sawing wood and helping out with hay. George loved to have company and he always had time for a cup of coffee and a conversation. George enjoyed riding his quad, checking out the countryside or vising his brother or friends, usually with his beloved dogs at his side.

TEULON & DISTRICT VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE

The Teulon Ambulance service began in the 1960’s with transportation being provided by local resident Rens Renooy. The ambulance program evolved over the years and was administered by the Teulon Ambulance Board made up of local citizens from the Village of Teulon, RM’s of Rockwood, Armstrong and Woodlands.

There were 15 volunteer ambulance attendants and drivers, each having completed a 90-hour First Responder course. Dr. Geoff Coleshill was the instructor, from his arrival in 1974 until his departure several years later.

Volunteers were paid while actually on a call, but then donated their pay back to the ambulance program to purchase needed equipment and provide a social fund to support and maintain a valuable well-trained and cohesive crew.

The volunteer program ended with the advent of the Interlake Regional Health Authority in 1997.

TEULON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The WI of Teulon was established in 1949 and throughout the years has made significant contributions to various groups, events and projects within the community. Significant contributions to health care in Teulon included ward furnishings to the original hospital as well as furnishing a ward in Goodwin Lodge when it was first opened. From sewing slippers to fundraising for large donations, the WI worked tirelessly to improve the care for patients and residents of our community.

Even though they are no longer in existence, their hard work, the dedication and the numerous contributions of the WI have made a huge impact and greatly benefited the health care in our community. We are grateful for all they have done.

TEULON LADIES AUXILIARY

The Teulon Ladies Auxiliary was established shortly after the first Hunter Hospital was constructed in 1936. Over the years their focus changed, from initially working in direct care needs to more of a fundraising effort as times changed.

Many auxiliary groups were established in the villages surrounding the hospital including the addition of a Junior Auxiliary in Teulon. Auxiliary groups helped the Teulon Hospital Board fund raise, through various methods, such as teas and raffles. These efforts went to help improve care in the hospital and Goodwin Lodge. Purchases both large and small were made possible through the many hours of hard work and dedication of the Auxiliaries.

Many improvements in the care of patients and residents were made possible through their efforts and will always be appreciated.
